Prefense Hand Sanitizer - Review

I love hand sanitizer - it's a quick way to kill germs without washing your hands. I always have it on hand... in the car, in my purse, at my desk.

But, there are things I don't care for in alcohol-based sanitizers.

The smell. When I used to work in an office, there were sanitizer dispensers places in strategic locations on the wall. I had the pleasure of sitting near one of these, but anytime someone used it and walked by me, it smelled like they were chugging vodka.

That sticky, dry feeling. I love the feeling when you put sanitizer on your hands, it's nice and cool... but then once it dries, you feel like you need lotion.


When I had the opportunity to review Prefense, I was more than willing. It's alcohol-free, so it definitely intrigued me.

The first thing that immediately drew me to Prefense was the smell. It's doesn't smell like vodka, and that's great! :) It has a soft citrus smell. It is not overpowering in the least bit, instead it is very subtle.

The application of Prefense is the same as any other sanitizer, accept it goes onto your hand as a foam, instead of a thick liquid. After rubbing into my hands, I guess, just by history, I expected that sticky/dry feeling. Instead, it was just the opposite. My hands felt smooth and clean. 

So how exactly does an alcohol-free hand sanitizer work? I know that alcohol sanitizers kill germs on contact. I also know that once the alcohol is dry, it stops working. So that is why to use it effectively, you have to use it all the time.

Obviously, I don't have a microscope, so I can't tell you that I've seen an increase or decrease in germs with Prefense. This is what I do know though:

Prefense is made of all-natural ingredients, and contains a silica complex that adheres to your skin and creates a sort of barrier, if you will. This "barrier" will last through 10 hand washings, or over 24 hours. So wet or dry, Prefense is working, and stops skin to skin transfer of germs.
